This easy, 6-mile loop begins on an old RR bed into wooded hills, then it follows the trail to farmland, crosses RR tracks into the forest, loops through Hemlock Hill Trail, Woods and Swale trail, and roads back to Westport.
The hike ends at the Essex County Fairgrounds, where participants can join and enjoy the Adirondack Harvest Festival, which features local food, crafts, music, kids' activities, and more. It's the perfect way to support local farmers, artisans, and businesses in the Champlain Valley.
Plan to meet at the Essex County Fairgrounds at 10 a.m. for the guided hike. Please make sure to allow time for registration and signing waivers. If you can't make it at 10 am, you can come later and hike on your own. The festival runs from 12 pm to 5 pm.
The Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 12-5 pm at the Essex County Fairgrounds. The event will follow the same format as past festivals, with a large farmers’ market, local food trucks, “Local Libations” tent, hands-on workshops, kids’ activities, draft horse and wagon rides, and more.
The theme of the hands-on workshops and demonstrations will be “Local Fiber and Wool” with experts leading sessions on natural dyes for yarn and fabric, sheep shearing, spinning, weaving, and more. Click here for more information about the Adirondack Harvest Festival!
