Join the Champlain Area Trails Book Club: Discuss "Humankind" by Rutger Bregman

Are you passionate about nature and literature? Join us for a thought-provoking discussion at the Champlain Area Trails conservation book club  on Tuesday, March 11th, from 5 PM to 6 PM. This month, we will delve into "Humankind," an insightful book by Rutger Bregman.

Renowned international bestseller Rutger Bregman offers a transformative perspective on 200,000 years of human history in "Humankind." He argues that we are inherently wired for kindness and cooperation, emphasizing our tendency to trust one another over suspicion. Bregman’s compelling narratives—from the realities behind Lord of the Flies to the community spirit following the Blitz, and from the flawed Stanford prison experiment to the inspiring true story of twins who played roles in ending apartheid—illustrate that believing in the goodness of humanity isn’t just optimistic; it’s realistic.

Bregman’s arguments have significant implications for how we approach society and our personal interactions. When we view humanity with a lens of distrust, it can taint our politics and economics. Conversely, believing in our shared kindness and altruism lays the groundwork for genuine change. With his signature wit and engaging storytelling, Bregman makes a compelling case that invites us to rethink our world.

As Yuval Noah Harari, author of the bestselling Sapiens, puts it, "Humankind made me see humanity from a fresh perspective."
