Enjoy this 6.2-mile loop trail near Moriah, New York. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it will take around 4 hours to complete as we lop and clean up the trail along the way. It is a perfect trail for getting deep in the woods in some wild backcountry. The first two miles involve a fair amount of steep climbing, including an interesting view of Ensign Pond and some low mountains in the Hammond Pond Wild Forest. The second stage of the hike is a big four-mile loop that walks below the massive Broughton Ledges. Much of this part of the hike is on old tote roads through beautiful mature forests.
WHAT TO BRING: We will work with loppers, hand saws, and string trimmers, which Champlain Area Trails can provide. Feel free to bring your tools as well. Make sure to bring gloves, protective eye gear (if using a string trimmer), water, and some snacks! Dress in good layers for winter hiking.
