Join us for an inspiring event featuring artist Mac MacDevitt as he presents his latest project, the SkyBeam Sculptures, at the Essex Quarry Nature Preserve. There will be a presentation at 2:30 p.m., which will feature Champlain Area Trails and Mac, who will delve into the fascinating journey of salvaging the Sky Beams—elegantly curved, laminated cedar beams initially designed for a prototype series of SkyHigh Shelters showcased at the 2013 Champlain Makers Faire. Discover the challenges and triumphs Mac encountered while transforming these structural elements into free-standing sculptures, and gain insights into the design and fabrication process behind these intriguing artworks. After the presentation, enjoy walking the Quarry to discover these sculptures.
This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts.
