Cheney Mountain Trail

     

Description: Get to know this 1.8-mile out-and-back trail on Pelfershire Road about halfway between Port Henry and Westport. Walk across a field, and enter the woods for a short uphill hike to the summit, with two seasonal views of the lake, and a year-round view toward the High Peaks. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 30 min to complete. This trail is excellent for birding, cross-country skiing, and hiking, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. 

     

     

Find this iconic trailhead on Pelfershire Road, about 1.6 mi west of Rt. 22/9N. Walk across a field, enter woods for a short uphill hike to the summit with three scenic overlooks. Interesting “perched” wetlands can be found on the summit.
