Mike Derrick lives in the town of Peru in Clinton County, New York. He grew up in Peru and moved back home in 2015 after serving for 30 years around the world and the nation in the U.S. Army. Mike and his wife, Kathy (also retired Army), have four children who now live in four time zones. When they’re not in Peru, you’ll find them hiking, biking, nordic skiing, trekking hut-to-hut, or canoeing somewhere in the Northern Forest between the Adirondacks and Maine, where Kathy grew up. They’ve hiked hut-to-hut in Vermont and Colorado, adventure raced in Alaska and Hawaii, and walked the Camino de Santiago in France and Spain. They believe deeply in the power of the trail, the magic of map and compass, and the value of placing one foot in front of the other.
