Date: March 21st

Location: Meet at the Essex Ferry Parking area, Essex, New York. (121 Essex Road, Essex, NY 12936)
Are you looking for an outdoor adventure while giving back to the community? Join Champlain Area Trails for a Saturday Volunteer Project on the Essex Gateway Trail. This is considered an easy trail. It is roughly a 3-mile round-trip that passes through forest, pasture, and open farmland until its terminus at Blockhouse Road. Much of the trail passes through Essex Farm, which is a busy place with cattle, sheep, pigs, and all forms of cultivation.
During this working hike, we will engage in trail maintenance activities such as lopping, hand sawing, string-trimming, and cleaning up the trail, making it safer and more enjoyable for all hikers. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the fresh air, meet fellow outdoor enthusiasts, and contribute to preserving a fantastic community trail.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Tools: Champlain Area Trails will provide loppers, hand saws, and string trimmers, but feel free to bring your own tools if you prefer.
- Safety Gear: Bring gloves and protective eyewear (if using a string trimmer).
- Hydration: Don’t forget to bring water!
- Snacks: Pack some snacks for energy during the hike.
- Clothing: Dress for cold weather in layers and footwear that can get wet.
