ADK Garden Club Volunteering

Join CHAMPLAIN AREA TRAILS in supporting the ADK Garden Club through volunteering on Friday, May 17th at 10 A.M.

This is a follow-up workshop to the January seed sowing.  More than two-thirds of the seeds we sowed last January have now germinated, and more are on their way. The next step is "pricking-out", and we are pleased to announce pricking out workshops on the mornings of May 10 and 17 from 10am to noon. The workshops will take place in Essex NY. Please come if you can. We hope to be outdoors. Bring a lawn chair if you would like to sit comfortably while pricking out.

At these workshops, we will be pricking out seedlings that have grown from seeds collected at the Essex Quarry last fall, and planting them into plug trays. We will provide a demonstration and instructions. After the seedlings are pricked out and planted in trays, we will take care of them and encourage growth over the summer. Then we will plant them next fall at a new garden we are preparing at the quarry. As a reward,  each person who participates will be able to take home 10% of the seedlings they prick out.

For those who prefer pulling out invasives by their roots (i.e., uprooting), no worries - there will also be invasive removal opportunities at the quarry on both May 10 and 17.

All that is needed are gloves, a shovel, or a trowel.
